LLW Repository Ltd offers a Supercompactable Waste Treatment Service to customers, to support the minimisation of the volume of low level waste to be disposed of at the Low Level Waste Repository. Waste undergoes high force compaction at the Waste Monitoring and Compaction (WAMAC) Facility at Sellafield in West Cumbria.
There are two main options available to customers under the Supercompactable Waste Treatment Service:
Under this option, LLW Repository Ltd supplies the Customer with a suitable transport container. The customer then puts compactable waste into bags and loads the bags into the transport container. LLW Repository Ltd collects the transport container and transports it to the Supercompactable Waste Treatment Facility at Sellafield for treatment, which can include shredding as well as compaction. The compacted bags, within a waste box, are then loaded into a disposal container and transported to the Low Level Waste Repository for grouting and disposal.
Under this option, Customers load compactable waste into drums and transport these to the Supercompactable Waste Treatment Facility at Sellafield for treatment. The compacted drums are then loaded into a disposal container and transported to the Low Level Waste Repository for grouting and disposal.
