The Metallic Waste Treatment Service, provided by LLW Repository Ltd, opens up exciting opportunities for our customers to recycle material as well as reduce the volumes of low level waste required for disposal at the Low Level Waste Repository, which is better for the environment and a more efficient use of resources.
Having the option to treat metallic waste gives our customers greater flexibility in how to manage low level radioactive waste. This service is helping to reduce the volume of waste requiring disposal at the Low Level Waste Repository by using a range of readily available techniques.
Our efficient and cost-effective service gives customers more options when considering how to manage metallic low level waste arising from industrial operations. The list of materials we accept includes: Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Copper and Lead as well as other less common metals.
The objective of the service we offer is to reduce the volume of low level waste for disposal by removing contamination from clean metal so that it can be recycled. We can use a range of techniques such as shot-blasting, size reduction and melting to treat the metallic waste. Secondary waste arising from the process, such as slag from metal melting, can then be disposed of at the Low Level Waste Repository.
