Transition Plan
To support the transition from the current Low Level Waste Disposal Agreement to the new Waste Services Contract from the 1st April 2010, LLW Repository Ltd is implementing a Transition Plan for a smooth transition from the current arrangements to the new Waste Acceptance Criteria and Waste Acceptance Procedure. The Transition Plan is intended to provide a gradual move from the old processes to the new to reduce the impact on Customers.

17th April 2008 Meeting
The first National Low Level Waste Strategy Group meeting was held on Thursday 17th April 2008 at the Rheged Centre near Penrith. This was an important first step in the development of a National LLW Strategy. Presentations were provided to the Strategy Group members and participants by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and LLW Repository Ltd to introduce preliminary concepts and topical strategies in establishing an integrated National LLW Programme.

Each assessment considers the options for treatment and disposal of a specific type of waste in the context of a national approach and inventory. On the 5th June 2009, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority launched a consultation for the draft strategy for the Management of Solid Low Level Radioactive Waste from the UK Nuclear Industry. This is in response to revised Government policy for the management of solid Low Level Waste (LLW). The strategy has been produced in conjunction with the Low Level Waste Strategy Group. The strategy is being launched along with the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), which underpins the strategy.
