Low Level Waste 2009
LLW Repository Ltd held its annual low level waste forum on Wednesday 22nd April 2009, at the Rheged Centre at Penrith. The event provided an an opportunity to review the developments in low level waste management that have taken place in the past 12 months and also to look further back as we marked the 50th anniversary of waste disposal at the Low Level Waste Repository Site, which commenced back in 1959!
Since the last Forum in April 2008, there have been many developments in this sector of the industry including construction work commencing on Vault 9 at the Repository and the emerging National Low Level Waste Strategy. Within LLW Repository Ltd, we have been working with Customers, Suppliers and Regulators to develop alternative options for the treatment and disposal of low level waste. Looking to the future, the forum provided an insight into our current work and future plans covering a diverse range of topics from segregated wastes through customer contracts to packaging solutions.
