13th - 14th November Meeting
The fourth National Low Level Waste Strategy Group meeting was held on 13th / 14th November 2008 at the Gables Hotel near Oldbury and included a tour of the Oldbury Site.
The overall purpose of this meeting was to consider the final strategic review document and input into the options and opportunities studies that support the development of the National LLW Strategy. Presentations were provided to the Strategy Group members and participants by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, LLW Repository Ltd and Strategy Group members on the following topics:
- Site and Stakeholder updates
- Final Strategic Review document
- Options and opportunities studies (e.g. metals, incineration, alternative disposal route)
- Draft LLW Management Plan
- Emerging LLW strategy

LLW Topical Strategies Summary
To support the development of the national low level waste strategy, a number of key topic areas have been identified with specific strategies being developed for each topic. These are referred to as topical strategies and the attached document provides a summary of these topical strategies.

LLW Strategic Review Summary
A Strategic Review has been developed based on the current position for low level waste management in 2008. The Strategic Review identifies and evaluates a number of synergies and opportunities to reduce the low level waste liability. This will inform the development of the Nuclear Industry LLW Strategy and National LLW Management Plan in 2009. The attached document provides a summary of the Strategic Review.
