LLW Repository Ltd's Waste Acceptance Procedure details how waste must be consigned under the Waste Services Contract. The Waste Acceptance Procedure is the collective term used for the arrangements that Customers follow to consign waste to LLW Repository Ltd for treatment and / or disposal. It forms part of the Waste Services Contract and it is a requirement for Customers to follow the Waste Acceptance Procedure when consigning waste to LLW Repository Ltd.
As of the 1st January 2011, there are seven elements to the Waste Acceptance Procedure: Overview, Waste Forecasting, Waste Characterisation, Waste Assurance, Waste Enquiry, Waste Consignment and Waste Receipt. The Process Diagram, Guides, Forms and Templates associated with each Process are also part of the Waste Services Contract. The Waste Acceptance Criteria detail what wastes can be consigned to LLW Repository Ltd under the Waste Services Contract.
Process Diagrams
Each Process within the Waste Acceptance Procedure is detailed in a Process Diagram. The Diagram highlights the key steps in each process and defines the actions that the Customer, LLW Repository Ltd and the Supplier will take to complete the process.
Guides
Each Process is supported by a Guide. The Guide provides additional details about each process step, information requirements, actions and the objectives of the Process. The Guide also explains how each Form should be completed and the role of any Templates that LLW Repository Ltd completes.
Forms
Forms are used to provide relevant information at specific points within each Process. The Forms are to be completed by Customers and submitted to LLW Repository Ltd. Forms can be completed electronically and submitted to LLW Repository Ltd by e-mail.
Templates
Templates are completed by LLW Repository Ltd and issued to Customers to provide relevant information within a Process, such as a Quotation or an Approval. Templates will be completed electronically and issued to the Customer by e-mail.

2. Waste Forecasting Process
The Waste Forecasting Process must be completed and approved before a Customer can consign waste to LLW Repository Ltd through the Waste Services Contract. The Waste Forecasting Process allows Customers to provide LLW Repository Ltd with a regular forecast of their Treatment and Disposal Volumes, Disposal Activity Content and Waste Packaging requirements. Customers must submit their Waste Forecasting Form by either 30th November for allocations commencing on 1st January and 31st May for allocations commencing on 1st July.

3. Waste Characterisation Process
The Waste Characterisation Process must be completed and approved before a Customer can consign waste to LLW Repository Ltd through the Waste Services Contract. The Waste Characterisation Procedure is the process that Customers follow to provide LLW Repository Ltd with a physical, chemical and radiological characterisation of a wastestream. The Waste Characterisation Form is no password protected to allow Customers to include figures, pictures and tables as required.

4. Waste Assurance Process
The Waste Assurance Process enables Customers to provide assurance that their waste management arrangements and procedures for consigning waste for Treatment and / or Disposal comply with the requirements of both the Waste Acceptance Procedure and the Waste Acceptance Criteria.

5. Waste Enquiry Process
The Waste Enquiry Process is the starting point for consigning a specific volume of waste under the Waste Acceptance Procedure. The Waste Enquiry Process is designed to promote early engagement between Customers and LLW Repository Ltd in order to develop treatment and disposal plans for particular waste types and volumes. This is the process by which a Waste Services Quotation is provided to the Customer.

6. Waste Consignment Process
The Waste Consignment Process is the point where waste is consigned to the relevant treatment or disposal facility under the Waste Acceptance Procedure. This goes hand in hand with waste generation activities. Customers gather data as waste is packaged into a consignment and this is then summarised in the Waste Consignment Information Form. This represents the final input from the Customer in the Waste Acceptance Procedure.

7. Waste Receipt Process
The Waste Receipt Process is the last Process to be followed in consigning waste under the Waste Acceptance Procedure, and relates to a specific consignment of waste, i.e. a single container of waste. The Process begins with the waste consignment being received at a Treatment and / or Disposal Facility. This step includes the Waste Receipt Checks and any Waste Assurance Monitoring which aim to provide confirmation that the consignment complies with the relevant Waste Acceptance Criteria, the Waste Services Quotation and the Waste Consignment Information Form. The process is complete once LLW Repository Ltd issues a Waste Disposition Report, detailing the final status of the consignment when the Treatment and / or Disposal Services are completed.
